Abraham Foxman of the Anti-Defamation League says the Mormon Church’s proxy Baptisms of deceased Holocaust victims are “taking away their Jewishness.” But Mormons believe a person can reject a proxy Baptism in the afterlife. So what are these well-intentioned Mormons really taking away? People like Foxman are asking to take away these Mormons’ right to practice their beliefs, a basic right guaranteed in the Constitution. Instead of attacking Mormon practices with misinformed outrage, open yourselves up to the more constructive dialogue of tolerance.
